In-stock products first. Sold-out ones sink.

InStock First moves sold-out products below the in-stock ones in the collections you choose, and floats them back to their place when they are restocked. Nothing is hidden, your theme is never touched, and no customer data is read.

What InStock First does

Shoppers scroll past “Sold out” badges. InStock First keeps the products they can buy at the top of the collections you choose, and runs by itself after install.

  • In-stock products first

In each collection you turn on, products that are completely sold out move below every product that can still be bought.

  • Restocks float back

When a sold-out product is restocked, it returns to the place it had before.

  • Nothing hidden, theme untouched

Products are never hidden, unpublished, tagged or edited, and your theme is never changed. Only the order inside the collection changes.

  • Manual and automated collections

One switch per collection. For a collection sorted by a rule, such as Best selling, the app explains what changes before it switches it to manual sorting.

  • Runs by itself

Inventory changes are picked up within about a minute, and a nightly check covers anything missed.

  • No customer data

The app reads products, inventory and collections, and nothing else. It never reads orders or customers.

How it works

  1. Install from the Shopify App Store

Approve the app’s three permissions (read products, read inventory, reorder products in collections) and start the 7-day free trial.

  2. Turn on your collections

Flip the switch next to each collection, or turn it on for all of them. For a rule-sorted collection, the app first shows what switching to manual sorting means.

  3. Sold-out products sink

Products whose every variant is sold out move below the in-stock ones, and the app keeps it that way as your inventory changes.

  4. Restocks float back

A restocked product returns to its place. Turn a collection off and its previous sort order comes back.

See it

A drawing of one collection page, with products from the app’s demo store. Your theme looks exactly as it does today; only the order of the products changes.

Sold-out products move to the end; the in-stock ones keep their order. When Swim Shorts is restocked, it goes back to second place.

Questions

When is a product “sold out”?

When every one of its variants is tracked, at zero sellable quantity, and not set to keep selling when out of stock. A product with one variant in stock stays where it is.

Does it hide products or change my theme?

No. It only changes the order of products inside the collections you turn on, the same thing you do when you drag products around in Shopify admin.

What about collections sorted by Best selling or price?

Shopify can only reorder products in manually sorted collections. The app explains this first, then saves the order shoppers see, switches the collection to manual and keeps that order with sold-out products at the end. Turning it off switches the collection back to its rule.

How quickly does it react?

About a minute after an inventory, product or collection change, with a full check every night. Press Sort now to skip the wait.

Does it read my orders or customers?

No. It asks only to read products and inventory and to reorder products in collections, and it stores no customer data. Details are in the privacy policy.

What do I need?

An online store with collections. It works on every Shopify plan.
